GDT is excited to see the initial plans for a women’s soccer stadium at Santa Fe Yards and is particularly impressed that parking appears to have been minimized on a site that is close to I-25 & Broadway Station. A bold aim to have a high percentage of stadium goers travel to / from the site by public transit is exactly the sort of decisive action we need to see if Denver is ever to meet its sustainability, congestion and climate change goals. That said, GDT urges Denver NWSL, CDOT, DOTI and RTD to focus on a key piece of infrastructure that will be required for such a bold plan to work, namely the pedestrian bridge connection from I-25 & Broadway Station, that will take soccer fans over the light rail and consolidated mainline freight tracks to the stadium site. We urge Denver NWSL, CDOT, DOTI and RTD to work together to fund and build the bridge in time for the first game at the stadium in 2028.

We request that Denver NWSL, CDOT, DOTI and RTD work together to fund and build the pedestrian bridge in time for the first game at the stadium in 2028.

Frequently Stated Points

There’s already a bridge to the south of I-25 & Broadway Station.

The existing bridge is located approximately 1,200ft to the south of the light rail platform at I-25 & Broadway Station, in the complete opposite direction to the stadium’s location. This means that the ‘straight shot’ 1000ft walk / roll the new pedestrian bridge would provide has approximately 1/2 mile added to it, which will severely diminish the attractiveness of using RTD’s bus and train services at I-25 & Broadway Station and may make the walk / roll unmanageable for some.

Subject: Denver NWSL Stadium Bridge

Dear Denver NWSL, CDOT, DOTI and RTD,

I am writing to express my support for the provision of a direct pedestrian bridge to connect the I-25 & Broadway Stadium to the new Denver NWSL Stadium.

I am excited to see the initial plans for a women’s soccer stadium at Santa Fe Yards and am particularly impressed that parking appears to have been minimized on a site that is close to I-25 & Broadway Station. A bold aim to have a high percentage of stadium goers travel to / from the site by public transit is exactly the sort of decisive action we need to see if Denver is ever to meet its sustainability, congestion and climate change goals. That said, I urge Denver NWSL, CDOT, DOTI and RTD to focus on a key piece of infrastructure that will be required for such a bold plan to work, namely the pedestrian bridge connection from I-25 & Broadway Station, that will take soccer fans over the light rail and consolidated mainline freight tracks to the stadium site.

The new bridge will cut the walking and rolling distance from I-25 & Broadway Station to the stadium down to approximately 1000ft, therefore making RTD’s bus and train services an extremely attractive option for stadium goers to use to get there and encouraging a high public transit mode share. Encouraging as many patrons as possible to not drive or be driven has numerous benefits including a reduction of traffic, less parking being required and better air quality around the stadium.

Therefore, I request that Denver NWSL, CDOT, DOTI and RTD to work together to fund and build the bridge in time for the first game at the stadium in 2028.

Yours sincerely,
