DUS Bus Bay Reconfiguration
GDT > Reimagine RTD (GDT’s Version) > DUS Bus Bay Reconfiguration
The efficiency of operations at Denver Union Station (DUS) could be improved with revised gate assignments and layover positions. This is because buses often loop round the entire length of the concourse after picking riders up and before dropping them off.
Up to a minute of journey time could be saved by optimizing gates to whichever end of DUS buses use to arrive and depart. The gate assignments can be better matched with rider flows to and from rail platforms located at each end of bus concourse. This would also give the opportunity for groups of bus routes (e.g. towards Civic Center) to be allocated gates close together to make system easy to use.
The post pandemic recovery and subsequent changes in ridership provides a unique opportunity to reassess how DUS is used.
